VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. It is another name for Internet telephony and often known as VOIP Internet telephony. But in case of VOIP, this data flows over a packet-switched network. Those protocols, which carry voice signals over the IP network, are known as VOIP protocols. They are offering subscribers opportunities to make and receive large numbers of calls through VOIP Internet telephony by connecting an analog telephone adapter (ATA) to the Internet connection.
