Gifts for Administrative Professionals Week

Author: William Smith

This holiday was originally called Secretary's Day, but is now more commonly known as Administrative Professionals Week. Administrative Professionals Week is always the last full week in April, and Wednesday of that week is sometimes called Administrative Professionals Day. The name was changed to more accurately describe the range of duties now performed by these individuals that are critical to any smooth running business. Here are a few ideas on gifts to recognize the administrative professional at your company:

Flowers - flowers are always appreciated, and this holiday is a great time to get a good deal on a floral arrangement. Flowers are most expensive at Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, but they are much cheaper other times of the year. Spring is a great time for flowers, with many varieties blooming across the country this time of year.

Flower Shaped Cookies - Think of it as an edible alternative to classic flowers. These decorated cookies come in many designs, such as Roses, Tulips and more. Some designs even allow you to personalize one of the cookies for a special thank you message. Have them delivered to the office so she can show off her bouquet to all her friends at work.

Out for lunch - This is the most popular option, and for good reason. Taking the time to recognize his or her contributions is important, and having lunch at a local restaurant is great way to do it. If your administrative professional supports a whole department, try and get everyone to join you at lunch. While it may be impossible to surprise her, do not request the admin make the actual reservation.

A free vacation day - Nothing is a more welcome surprise than an unexpected day off. If your company allows the flexibility, give your administrative professional a vacation day. It's up to you whether you tell them ahead of time, or give them the good news when they get to the office that morning. If they have a long commute, it might be better to tell them at the end of the previous work day. For the ultimate gift, combine the free vacation day with a shopping gift card or spa certificate close to home or work.

Thank You Gift Basket - Gift baskets are a great idea for Secretary's / Administrative Professionals Day. A thank you basket will typically contain lots of gourmet treats for them to snack on, and should include thank you themed containers or wrapping.

Shopping gift card - If your admin loves to shop, give them a gift certificate to their favorite store or mall. This is a popular idea for admins that support a large group; if everyone chips in a few dollars, it will add up to a significant amount for them to spend.

Spa gift certificate - An admin's life can be very stressful, so why not give them some time to relax? A trip to the spa is something they will look forward to for weeks and a nice massage or manicure will rejuvenate them.

Special interest gift - If your administrative professional has a special hobby or interest, try and find something that they would enjoy. It could be a sleeve of golf balls for the golfing enthusiast, or the latest book from their favorite author.
