South Carolina's Warm Weather Keeps Women in Shape -Discover How Women From Charleston Get Fit

Author: Heather Picken

Charleston, SC is a big tourist attraction and the fact that the weather is always pleasant. As a result, women are getting fit outdoors.

One of the trends women are doing in Charleston are group outdoor fitness classes, called boot camp. These workouts focus on conditioning the whole body with military style drills. Push-ups, sprints, and obstacle courses are just some of the exercises performed in these classes. Classes last approximately 45 minutes and are very effective in burning fat. These non-stop workouts keep their heart rates up. Classes are held usually in various parks around Charleston. Most of the women that participate in these classes are not athletes, but are moms and busy professionals. They enjoy the variety of the workouts, being outside, and that the classes only are only 45 minutes. Having these classes outdoors is perfect because of the beautiful weather and will be held even during the winter months.

Another workout women are doing is walking, jogging, or even strolling their babies over the new Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. As they work out they can enjoy the view of the Cooper River and downtown Charleston. This new bridge is a cable-stayed and is over the Cooper River. It connects downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant. The eight-lane bridge opened in 2005, with a main span of 1,546 feet (471 m), it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.
