Academic Competence Questioned

Author: Lance Winslow

Just because someone has a degree in a field of science or line of work hardly makes them a guru of an industry sector, the next great innovator of that field of science or guarantees that they are even a competent human being.

In fact, any human can be trained to do just about anything and any human can be lead to believe just about anything. So if you ask a degreed academic professor they may not have any reservation stating their incredible credentials or competence.

Yet, let me tell you what I have found in the real world and that is the experts all run redline together and usually are not the innovators. In fact they often are miffed at the real entrepreneurs who find an easier way and hyper-space all of them in the market place, by simply building a better mousetrap or circumventing the norms of an industry.

In war it is the innovative thinker with the balls and the tenacity that defeats the enemy, not the largest army which is doing everything the same way it always has for hundreds or even thousands of years you see. And in stating this I am quite confident that you will find many mentions of this concept in Carl von Clauswitz "On War" and in many observations in regular life as well.

Academia works so hard to systematize and organize everything into little boxes and grids, yet fails to understand the most basic principle that there is opportunity in Chaos. Consider this in 2006.
